Hanging by a Thread – Mosaic for Afghan Women
An international community mosaic project backed by the United Nations to raise awareness and support for Afghan women and girls

Mosaic artists from around the globe have been working since September 2021 to bring attention to the world about the social and economic conditions of Afghan women and girls after the takeover of the Taliban. Over 1200 participants from 46 countries have created a mosaic of 10 x 25 cm to be assembled as mosaic scarves.

In Tasmania, more than 30 artists, experienced and beginners, came together to create over 50 mosaic segments to make this giant scarf currently touring around the state. It has received great interest in Launceston, Deloraine, Devonport and George Town with plans for a Hobart exhibition in 2023 before setting sail to the mainland for a national exhibition with the other states of Australia and New Zealand.

Bringing people together with art

Art is a fantastic way to bring people together.  It provides an opportunity for people to relax, talk, laugh and share.  Group creative workshops and projects can be a vehicle for awareness, change, self-expression, confidence building or simply social interaction.
I love to be involved in working with people to have fun and be creative.

I have been working with mosaic for seven years and teaching for three.  As well as coordinating the major community project, Mosaic For Afghan Women, I have run a number of smaller workshops with community groups, including Northern Suburbs Community Centre, Northern Mens Shed, Connected Women and She Shed Creative Arts.

If you have a community project in mind, or are part of a group who would like to engage in a creative activity, I would love to hear from you.
